Otherwise it was the question of a second to despatch Bhima to the court of Yama the deity of Death. Karna was, no doubt, freed from Krishna's stupefaction by then. This proves even Bhima was a greater archer than him. Karna could only fight extra-ordinarily against Arjuna during the Final Encounter because he fought with the invincible divine bow, the Vijaya Bow. Karan fight with Bhim in combat mace wrestling not in archery. Bhim could not beat Karan during whole day. And finally war suspended wuth sunset. And people ignore such a thing. Karna or the son of Dussasana did not attack him from behind, maybe it is the popular idea but in authentic texts it does not happen. You call that fair fight?? Let me tell you, When Ravana came to fight with Raama on first day of war then Raama's bows cuts down all weapons of Ravana.
Raama destroyed his chariot also. So as result Ravana become Chariotless and weaponless. By seeing this condition of Ravana, Raama said to Ravan that you has no weapons and no chariot, hence as per kshatriya dharma I can't attack you now, go and come again tomorow with weapons.
This is maryadaya purhsottam Raam — Vishvam. Abhimanyu had a club at the time of fighting against the son of Dussasana, in addition those of the group attack stopped him from attacking — Gabriel Alexander Gonzalez Agu.
Many warriors surrounded him when he was disarmed, that's why he took wheel of his chariot to use it as weapon against all those warriors coz he had nothing left. And a wheel of chariot can't be called as weapon. Hence he was totally weaponless when he got surrounded by all those warriors. Show 1 more comment. Advantages of Abhimanyu He was under the protection of a celestial armour protecting him from the attacks of warriors. Drona Parva: Abhimanyu-badha Parva: Section XLVI He had a boon of being invincible in war for a day And, indeed, your portions, ye celestials, shall fight, having made that disposition of the forces which is known by the name of the Chakra-vyuha.
Misconceptions of war. Abhimanyu was alone inside the chakra vyuh. Mahabharat tells us that he had an army killed by Karna. Group attack on Abhimanyu Abhimanyu faced the group attack but he was not killed in a group attack. They were actually a part of their arm forces. Yes Army of both Kauravas and Pandavas were the actual cream who were shown like an insect in our television as they could easily be vanished by the arrows of these so called warriors.
They didn't achieve as much acknowledgment as their commanders because they were a servants and fighting under the leadership of them. So the main credit is always goes to the leaders. If Drona, Bhisma , Arjuna etc were really a that great as they could destroy the hundred of arm forces with a one arrow As we have been watched on televison then why there is a need to have a thousand of arm forces.
They could have also been fought without any arm forces because in this case they are useless for them. The truth is a few person could not influenced the results of war by physical strength.
Army has always been a real strength. Drona, Bhsima, Karna were actually a great commanders , leaders and strategy makers and their strategies could have changed the face of the war. I'll be waiting for ur new article. I will try to answer your queries by a separate article The real problem is Kurushetra war is vengeance between kavuravs and Pandavas. What mistake did lakhs of people killed in the war, if all peoples killed in Kurushetra pointed towards Pandavas and Kauruvas how many they should have been punished.
Pandavas and Kavuravas are culprits causing huge human loss in the war. Though Mahabharatha is myth story, but in real war happened in whole history are all because of selfish kings. So what is dharma according to krishna? Indrajit, the portrayal of drona's character is refreshing and also the pritha metaphor. So are we supposed to believe that Krishna re-incarnated to allow and promote this practise!! Where have I said such things? It seems you have a tendency to generalize Samir, Your understanding of the Mahabharata and my article is a revelation indeed : -!!!
His strong castigation of women practicing free-sex, drinking liquor, and having abortion brings out this point. Are you saying that Kuntiputra Arjun with the blessings of Lord Shiva ,protection from Lord Hanuman, and support of Lord Krishna fought Suryaputra Karna to allow the practise of free sex, liquor and abortion amongst women of bharat.
Your understanding of the Mahabharata is a revelation indeed : -!!! Please read the text first and then come to argue I was expecting this crap from you First read the text please. Can you substantiate your point - "In fact killing of Abhimanyu was turning point of the Mahabharata. I was expecting this crap. This is exactly how our dear journalists write these days. They omit the main even which actually triggered the rest. In fact killing of Abhimanyu was turning point of the Mahabharata.
But interestingly that episode was not mentioned to give a biased view. Dude take a life!! Bhishma was not an ordinery man. And moreover "God Parshuraam" was his teacher. No body can't defeat Bhisma except god krishna and lord shiva. Bhisma told pandava's that if they bring "Shikandi" , he will not fight anymore. He leave his all devine and celestial weapons. Shikandi was devi amba in his previous birth. And devi amba got boon from Lord shiva , that she will be reason of die of bhisma.
Not even Karna, Arjuna, Drona together would vanquish him. Only Vasudeva would have been able to. Well anyways, One thing I definetly want to say here.
When this great war happened, not even our dust was on earth.. However I seriously hate the theories and counter theories. Almost all characters appear to be some kind of conniving villains not worthy of praise. Therein Narada clearly mentions the curses and sinking of chariot as reasons among the many.
It is true that Arjuna was a great warrior. Arjuna was identified as the sage Nara from previous birth. His celestial weapons were far superior to those of Bhishma and Karna including the infallible Pashupat, which neither Bhishma had nor Karna.
However, it certainly cannot be concluded that he was the best. Another thing is mere retreating from battlefield does not mean final defeat. Though Karna was injured by Arjuna several times vice versa was equally true and had retreated from the battle field, it was never written in Mahabharat that he had been vanquished until the fateful day when he was finally slayed by Arjuna. It let people know how , the aryans were a great yodha , brilliant and even marbles in all the fields.
What about the numerous weaknesses Arjun had?? In a even fight, he would have his ass handed to him by Karna. The only saving grace for Arjuna, or the Pandavas for that matter, is that they were devotees of Krishna.
Other than that they probably were the strongest warriors of their time, but in no way any match for Bheeshma, Karna or Drona..
Nag thank you for reading and your kind comments. You have gone as far as reasoning could go. But we will have to take Mahabharata-as-it-is. And in any attempt to understand Mahabharata, we will have to keep in mind the recensions:- i First Joy with about 10, verses probably a joygaan of Pandavas ii Bharata of about 24, verses Adi Parva, Ch-1 may be to further gloify Pandavas introducing us the might of their rivals.
In all these Vyasadeva wanted to present a picture that there may be hard hurdles, temporary setbacks but finally there will be victory of righteousness. The charecters and the events may or may not be historical and in this context they are only of secondary importance. We quote Vyasdeva, " Duryadhana Manyumaya mahadrumaH Yudhisthira dharmamayo mahadrumaH" Also pl.
Even when Jarasandha was seized, he let him go. In Gita Lord Krishna explicitly explained his purpose. I would only say Vyasdeva very efficiently and exquisitely did his job. In my view, leaving the absurdity or the hypothetical matters of the story aside, we must grasp the essence of the sastras to lead a better life and build a better world. I tend to agree with some of your points. However, you seem to have liberally taken certain stances in literal sense and in some places use your imagination just to prove your point of view.
Usage of words viz. Regarding Bhishma's death, it is definitely after the war It is said that Krishna instructs Yudhisthira to get this knowledge from Bhishma.
Nice attempt though I too felt, while reading the Mahabharata, that most of the fight was fair. I didn't think Abhimanyu's death was unfair either. It was a bit different for a change, but couldn't hold my interest for long. Full of "if and buts" funny at bits and pieces. Try to simplify the language used to make yours future post better. Nice attempt though, good time pass.

Before the war Karna tells Krishna that even if there were no reasons to join the Pandavas, he cannot show his face to Draupadi as he could not forgive himself for insulting her when the Kauravas tried to disrobe her. If was capable. How did, the author come to the conclusion, that Karna's armor in the Mhabharata war was the original one, and when it was destroyed, the subsequent writers opined that the original one was donated.
The interpretations are more to be confined to this author and not to the actual events. T Ray Dear Mr. You know so much dude! Excellent article. Mahabharata has been shared through the generations initially verbally and then through writings and has been modified and interpreted in each region and culture differently.
Why karna need panchaali counselling? Abhimanyu countered those arrows, and with ten arrows of his own killed his enemies horses and charioteer. Abhimanyu then cut off the arms and head of that powerful hero. When Karna came within reach, Abhimanyu pierced his armor with his blood sucking arrows. Penetrating his body, they entered the earth. Karna, struck senseless, fell to the floor of his chariot. Abhimanyu covered the battlefield with great speed, challenging the great warriors and defeating them all.
He came upon the ruler of Madras , Salya, and covered him with golden arrows. Struck in this way, the ruler of Madras fainted away and was taken from the battlefield.
Witnessing Abhimanyu's victory, the demigods, the Pitris , the Charanas and the Siddhas sang his glories from the heavens.
Meanwhile, Salya's brother assaulted Abhimanyu like a tempest. He covered him with many arrows and sent up a loud roar. In return, Abhimanyu released hundreds of arrows that killed his horses and charioteer, severed his royal standard, cut off the wheels and canopy of that car, and shattered all his weapons to pieces. Abhimanyu then severed the head of Salya's brother, and with this action all the supporting troops fled away in fear. After rallying the troops, many great warriors rushed at Abhimanyu screaming, "Today, you shall not escape with your life!
Disregarding the heavy burden placed upon him by Yudhisthira, he fearlessly released his arrows. Like Arjuna, his bow was constantly drawn in a circle. No one could tell when he drew the arrow from the quiver and when it was released from the bow. Witnessing Abhimanyu's prowess, the other Pandavas took no part in the battle, but acted only as spectators.
Duryodhana was maddened to see the rout of his army. He urged the great maharathis as follows, "The preceptor, Drona, out of affection does not wish to kill Arjuna's son. No one can escape Drona's wrath when he is provoked. Arjuna is the preceptor's disciple, and this is Arjuna's son. Drona looks upon him with pride and does not wish to kill him. It is for this reason that this foolish boy is victorious.
I order all of you to crush him. When ordered in this way, Duhshasana said to his brother, "O monarch, I take an oath that I will slay Arjuna's son within the very sight of the Pandavas.
I will devour Abhimanyu like Rahu devours the sun. When the two Krishnas hear of Abhimanyu's death, they will also die out of lamentation. Once they are dead, it will be easy to defeat the rest of the Pandavas. With the death of this one person, we will attain victory. Saying this much, Duhshasana assaulted Abhimanyu, covering him with his mighty weapons. Seeing him coming, Abhimanyu taunted him, "It is by good luck that today I am able to behold you, who are the embodiment of a braggart and a fool.
In the king's assembly at Hastinapura , you insulted Draupadi as well as my father and my uncles. O wicked person, today you shall receive the fruit of such actions. I shall today chastise you in front of the whole army. Today, I shall free myself from the debts I owe to the angry Krishna, and to my father, who always looks for the opportunity to challenge you.
O Kaurava, I shall today free myself from the debt I owe to Bhima. Only if you run away from the battlefield, will you escape with your life. Having spoken these words, Abhimanyu invoked a radiant celestial weapon. Releasing that arrow endowed with lightning speed, it pierced Duhshasana's shoulder joint up to the feathers. He then released twenty-five more arrows that resembled fire. Severely pained, Duhshasana sat down on the chariot floor and fell into a deadly swoon.
He was then taken away from the battlefield. Beholding this, the Pandavas were filled with joy and caused the battlefield to resound with conches, drums and bugles. Karna again came forward to challenge Abhimanyu. He pierced Abhimanyu with many arrows stretching his bow to it's fullest extent. The son of Phalguna felt no pain and released his deadly arrows that killed Karna's horses and charioteer.
Abhimanyu the cut the royal standard from his chariot and shattered his bow to pieces. Beholding Karna in the grip of death, his younger brother proceeded quickly against Arjuna's son. He roared loudly, and stretching his bow, he released ten arrows that pierced Abhimanyu's royal banner, umbrella, charioteer and horses.
With this action, the Kaurava heroes sent up loud shouts. However, with a cool and calm mind, Abhimanyu, with a single shaft, cut off the head of Karna's brother, and the smiling faces of the Kauravas changed to one of disbelief. Karna ascended another chariot, and in great anger, eager to avenge his brother's death, he assaulted Abhimanyu. However, Abhimanyu shattered his bow and countered his weapons, causing him to run from the battlefield. Having routed the Kaurava army, no one stood before Abhimanyu except Jayadratha, the Sindhu ruler.
That bull amongst the kshatriyas, Abhimanyu, then blew upon his conchshell and roared loudly bringing great joy to his uncles. Sanjaya continued: The Pandavas accompanied by Satyaki, Shikhandi, Dhristadyumna, Virata, Drupada, and Dhristaketu followed the path of destruction left by Dhananjaya's son.
They were hopeful to rescue him from the Kaurava ocean. Seeing them coming, your son-in- law, Jayadratha, the ruler of the Sindhus , stopped them from going any further. The powerful son of Vriddhakshatra , invoking his celestial weapons, resisted the advance of those great heroes, thus closing the gap in the great formation. Dhritarastra said: A heavy burden was placed upon Jayadratha, inasmuch as he alone had to stop their advance.
What benedictions had he received to single-handedly impede those great warriors? Sanjaya replied: While the Pandavas were living in the forest, Jayadratha insulted Draupadi and was beaten almost to death by Bhimasena. When humiliated in this way, Jayadratha began to perform austerities, reducing his body to skin and bones. Jayadratha, trying to please Lord Shiva, ate little and slept little. When Lord Shiva was pleased with him, he appeared to Jayadratha in a dream and asked him what he wanted.
With folded palms, Jayadratha asked for a boon by which he could defeat the Pandavas once. Lord Shiva granted the benediction saying, "You may defeat all of the Pandavas, except Arjuna.
